Windows 7 is quickly reaching end of life. On January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide critical security updates to the Window 7 operating system. This will put any systems that are still running Windows 7 vulnerable to security issues.

What does end of life mean?

Windows 7 computers will continue to operate normally after January 14th, but the systems will no longer get updates. This can mean several things. First, your Windows 7 computer will be more vulnerable to malicious software due since Microsoft will stop providing security updates. Second, it will become increasingly more challenging to find peripherals that will work with your system, and lastly, the computer any issues or bugs that occur in the operating system will not be fixed and may continue to occur. Over time, it will be impossible to find software that works on your system, and if you are using Office365, you may have issues installing your office software or getting emails.

Time to Update to Windows 10

Windows 7 is nearly a decade old!

Long story short, it is time to update to Windows 10. If your business is still running Windows 7 on any systems, the time has come to make a plan to update the operating system or replace the hardware. If your business is anything like others, you probably have at least a few systems in this category.

The good news is that Windows 10 can be set up to operate very much like Windows 7. The start menu can be customized per user to make the experience more seamless for new Windows 10 users. An upgrade to Windows 10 usually runs very smoothly with minimal disruption to the files and applications on your Windows 7 computer, assuming the computer hardware is compatible with Windows 10. While the initial Windows 10 launch got press for being buggy and having various issues, they have mostly been worked out at this point.
