Why Back Up Cloud Services?

Your business may have moved your Exchange server to the cloud, and you may have even started saving essential company documents to OneDrive, Sharepoint, or Google Drive. You sleep well at night, knowing that your data and email are in the cloud, safe and sound.

Time to wake up!

Cloud services usually offer versioning and replication, but they will not offer the same protection as a dedicated backup. They offer redundancy to the hardware where your data is stored, but they do not offer protection for your actual data.

Why Backup Office365?

Do any of these sound familiar?

  • You can’t find an important email. You have searched through your mailbox, and it doesn’t seem to be anywhere

  • An employee has left the company and deleted multiple vital emails. No one caught this until it was too late to restore them and now that information is lost

  • An employee had a mailbox get compromised, and the malicious actor permanently deleted important emails

  • A shared mailbox had multiple emails deleted that were still needed

  • A bad sync between your phone and email permanently deleted important company contacts

  • You deleted a file in OneDrive and realized that you need it back

  • A computer in your company has been infected with ransomware and files that were synced to a cloud service are now encrypted

  • You requested that a user mailbox be deleted because the person has left the company, but later realized that the mailbox had essential emails that you need back

  • Your company is in an industry that requires email and data retention for a specific length of time

The Truth about Cloud Services

Even if your cloud service provider can restore files from backup, they usually are not able to restore them quickly. There is no set Service Level Agreement for getting your data back, and it could be days or weeks before your data is restored. Even Microsoft recommends using a third party tool to backup Office365 data.

Microsoft also makes no promises about restoring individual files. Often times, the only option is to restore an entire collection or mailbox, which overwrites changes that are made between data loss and recovery.

Without backup, emails that have been deleted more than 30 days ago are not recoverable. Sharepoint files that have been deleted more than 93 days ago are gone. The retention period on deleted Sharepoint files is even shorter if the site collection is close to the storage limit or if the administrator of the site manually deletes the files from the collection recycle bin.

Cloud Backup to the Rescue!

With Office365 and G-Suite backup, your cloud data is protected. This backup will protect your email, contacts, calendars, OneDrive/Google Drive file, and Sharepoint files. Everything from individual emails, contacts, and files to entire mailboxes and Sharepoint folders can be restored from multiple different points in time without overwriting any existing data and can be completed as soon as you notice the data loss or issue and can be restored even if they were deleted months ago or if the original user’s mailbox is no longer active.

Cloud backup will give you full control over your cloud data!
